‘Sadiq Khan’s Ulez expansion threatens to destroy my 40-year-old business’

Small family business owners face spending thousands to replace non-compliant vehicles

Small family businesses are under threat of closing down because of Sadiq Khan’s decision to expand London’s Ultra-low emission zone.

The £12.50 daily charge for older polluting vehicles widened to all 32 London boroughs on Tuesday following months of controversy.

Rod Reed has owned a landscaping business in Beckenham, in London’s South East, for 40 years.

He said he may now have to “pack it in”, as he faces spending £25,000 to replace his non-compliant work van to meet Ulez requirements.
