Ryder Cup stars in line for LIV Golf compensation after turning down millions

Team Europe’s Ryder Cup stars Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm headline the PGA Tour loyalists who are expecting compensation after choosing stay loyal despite LIV Golf offering millions

The Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF) is expected to compensate a number of Ryder Cup golf players, including Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm, who declined to join LIV Golf. This comes after the PGA Tour and DP World Tour agreed to a groundbreaking merger.

McIlroy and Rahm were among the most notable golf stars to remain with the PGA Tour instead of joining the Saudi-backed LIV Golf circuit. But the idea of playing with those who did jump ship to receive their financial reward has frustrated some players.

This is why, after turning down millions to join LIV, they are set to receive a loyalty reward. The Saudis are considering compensating McIlroy, Rahm, and other PGA loyalists to diffuse the situation.

This compensation could potentially amount to hundreds of millions, especially given that Phil Mickelson is believed to have received a substantial payment of £160 million to leave the PGA Tour for LIV Golf.
