 A Russian submarine commander accused of killing at least 23 Ukrainians in a missile blitz was shot dead during a jog. Stanislav Rzhitskiy's lifeless body was discovered with four gunshot wounds to his back and chest yesterday. The 42-year-old had been running near a sports centre in Krasnodar, southern Russia, when he was targeted at 6am, detectives said. They believe the killer had been watching Mr Rzhitskiy to become familiar with his routine before launching the attack. Independent Russian media outlet Baza said the gunman likely used the Strava tracking app to find him. The organisation said: 'He constantly uploaded his runs . . . and he almost always ran along the same route. 'Largely thanks to this, it would not have been difficult for his killer to choose a convenient point for retribution.' Ukrainian military intelligence service, the GUR, said: 'Due to heavy rain the park was deserted, so there are no witnesses who could provide details or recognise the attacker.' Mr Rzhitskiy, a second-rank captain in the Russian navy, commanded the Krasnodar submarine. The Black Sea vessel is said to have been involved in several attacks on the Ukrainian city of Vinnytsia last year, killing at least 23 people including children. Mr Rzhitskiy was working as the deputy head of the Krasnodar region's mobilisation department when he was shot.
