President Zelensky has called repeated attacks by Russian forces in two eastern Ukrainian towns “crazy”, as both sides prepare to battle for the southern occupied city of Kherson and strikes continue in the Kyiv region.
The president of Ukraine said the most severe fighting in the east was taking place near Avdiivka, outside the city of Donetsk, and Bakhmut, where Ukrainian forces have resisted an assault for months.
Despite a looming Ukrainian advance against Russian forces in Kherson, Zelensky said the attacks continued in force, and hailed troops as “heroes” for holding out.
“This is where the craziness of the Russian command is most evident. Day after day, for months, they are driving people to their deaths there, concentrating the highest level of artillery strikes,”
