Ian Fleming, 53, died from a cardiac episode he suffered while undergoing physical training on duty – the inquest heard he been told to complete the test of ‘leave the Navy’
A decorated Royal Navy officer who was deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan died after collapsing during a fitness test, an inquest heard.
Ian Fleming, 53, died from a cardiac episode he suffered while undergoing physical training on duty. He had reportedly been told to complete the test of “leave the Navy”.
Mr Fleming, who had heart disease, had been given an “ultimatum” by his seniors, which left him with “no choice” but to take part in a “physically demanding” leadership course, his wife Michele told the hearing.
The serviceman, who had been awarded numerous medals for his work, was on track to attain the permanent rank of Petty Officer.
