Gabby had been looking forward to her new life with Nicky and son Thomas, certain that this time she'd found a man she could trust. Nicky seemed to be charming, kind, loving and also brilliant with Thomas. In fact on the morning of the wedding she suggested that Nicky should adopt Thomas to put the official seal on his relationship with the little boy – and it was this step that made Nicky's conscience finally get the better of him.
