Rob McElhenney reduced to tears on emotional visit to watch Wrexham

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia creator and star Rob McElhenney, who co-owns Wrexham along with Ryan Reynolds, was in town to watch a game when he was serenaded by other fans

Rob McElhenney was reduced to tears during a recent visit to the city as he spent time in a pub drinking with fans, as Wrexham hope to clinch promotion in their second full season with the new Hollywood owners.

McElhenney, along with Ryan Reynolds, became owners of the club in 2021, with their journey towards buying the club and their first season being documented on the Disney + show ‘Welcome to Wrexham’. In their first season they made a number of trips to the northern Welsh city, before suffering unfortunate heartbreak in a semi-finals playoff loss to Grimsby Town whilst also losing in the FA Trophy Final against Bromley. Welcome to Wrexham has already been rebooted for a second season.

And although fans were, naturally, disappointed to not gain promotion, the two new owners have brought a fresh leash of life to the football club and are seemingly well liked.

This past weekend, McElhenney was in Wrexham to watch their away match against Boreham Wood in The Turf pub – which was also featured on the documentary with the pub being just yards away from the Racecourse Ground.
