Rishi Sunak should accelerate net zero plans, new energy advisor says

PM is urged not to ‘deviate’ from the plan despite controversy among Tory MPs who say rising household bills should be the priority

Rishi Sunak’s new energy advisor has urged the Government to go harder and faster on net zero.

Nick Park, who joined Downing Street this week, has urged the Prime Minister to “accelerate” towards the target rather than giving in to calls to “deviate” from the plan.

In a report he co-authored for the think-tank Public First, Mr Park argued that pressing ahead with net zero “remains the best plan” for the UK.

“The new Prime Minister should resist calls to deviate from the plan and instead concentrate on finding ways to accelerate the energy transition,” the report says.
