Selby and Ainsty by-election voters discuss possible results The Conservatives appear to be on the verge of a calamitous evening in three crucial by-elections as a new poll revealed that Labour has a lead of 19 percent among those who have decided to vote. According to the latest Techne UK tracker poll Labour are on 45 percent (down 1 for a second week in a row), the Tories still unchanged on 26 percent, Lib Dems unchanged from last week on 11 percent and Reform UK up one point to 7 percent. But the results are even more devastating for the Tories when looking at all the 1,632 people polled by Techne UK. Among all voters only 17 percent said they would definitely vote Conservative and the party has lost more than half of those who backed them in 2019 with just 48 percent of that group. A third of voters (34 percent) have decided not to vote (23 percent) or are uncertain about who to support (11 percent). Voting took place in three by-elections today The results come as voting closes in the three by-elections in previously safe seats for the Conservatives. Uxbridge and South Ruislip were called because Boris Johnson quit as an MP and sees the party defending a majority of 7,210 with Labour pushing hard. Despite having the smallest majority it is seen as the most likely victory because of the unpopularity of Labour London Mayor Sadiq Khan and his ULEZ expansion. In Selby and Ainsty in North Yorkshire, and Somerton and Frome in Somerset the party is defending majorities of around 20,000 but is in danger of losing to Labour and the Lib Dems respectively. Either result would be a record by-election swing since the Second World War. More info If this result was to play out in a general election all three seats would be under threat with the Tories only returning 111 MPs. Labour would have a majority of 278 and Sir Keir Starmer would have a free hand to do what he wanted. Among those who know how they will vote Labour has a majority in every age group including pensioners ages 65 and over where the Tories poll strongest. With anger over Conservative tax rises and mortgage interest payment rises, Labour also has a clear majority in all income levels with a lead of 39 percent to 31 percent among the most well-off. Only 2016 Leave voters poll higher for the Tories with 44 percent to Labour’s 26 percent. Trending
