The prospect of an extraterrestrial find can be a source of excitement, but a crater discovered on a beach in Dublin should have been treated with more scepticism after last week’s hot weather.
A reporter from Virgin Media News was sent out to file a story on a “huge, mysterious crater that looks out of this world” on Portmarnock beach on Wednesday and a rock found within it, which an astrophysics enthusiast was convinced was a meteorite.
It did not take long, however, for the theory to be debunked by a Dublin man and his friends saying that they had dug the hole with plastic shovels over the weekend.
