Remembrance Sunday: King to lead service for first time as monarch

The King will lead this morning’s Remembrance Sunday service at the Cenotaph for the first time as monarch.

A two-minute silence will take place across the UK at 11am and wreaths will be laid by the members of the royal family, senior politicians and faith representatives.

Big Ben will strike 11 times at 11am to mark the start of the silence.

The bell has mostly been silent for the last five years, having undergone the biggest repair and conservation project in its history, and has only run for certain events such as New Year’s Eve and the late Queen’s funeral.

But today’s tolling will mark its official return to use.
