Red Dead Redemption gets Switch release date… but the good news ends there

Red Dead Redemption for Nintendo Switch and PS4 (Image: ROCKSTAR) Rockstar classic Red Dead Redemption is coming to PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch . Widely regarded as one of the best open-world action games of all time, Red Dead Redemption has been given an August 17 release date on the PS4 and Nintendo Switch. Initially available as a digital download, a physical version will launch for both platforms on October 13. In addition to the core campaign, the upcoming Switch and PS4 release will include the Undead Nightmare expansion, which originally launched as DLC. Unfortunately, however, it’s not all good news for fans of the Western classic. While the game is available to pre-order now, the hefty price tag is likely to put some people off. Red Dead Redemption is currently listed for £39.99 on the Nintendo eShop and PlayStation Store. With Grand Theft Auto Trilogy – The Definitive Edition launching in a less than ideal state, the high price point could be a sticking point for fans. Indeed, if you’re itching to play some Red Dead Redemption on the go, it might be worth waiting for the early reviews to go live. The port is being handled by Double Eleven Studios, whose previous credits include Minecraft Dungeons (with Mojang), Prison Architect and LittleBigPlanet on PlayStation Vita. The game supports new languages, and also contains bonus content from the Game of the Year editions. Sadly, there’s no multiplayer support, and it doesn’t appear to contain any major visual or audio upgrades. “When federal agents threaten his family, former outlaw John Marston is forced to hunt down the gang of criminals he once called friends,” reads the official description. “Experience Marston’s journey across the sprawling expanses of the American West and Mexico as he fights to bury his blood-stained past in the critically acclaimed predecessor to the 2018 blockbuster, Red Dead Redemption 2.”
