Red Bull face post-race FIA investigation after eventful Singapore Grand Prix

Sergio Perez will visit the stewards (Image: Getty) Red Bull will be making a trip to the stewards after the Singapore Grand Prix with Sergio Perez under investigation following a collision with Alex Albon.  The Mexican driver was battling back through the field when he came across the Williams of Alex Albon with just three laps remaining on the counter. Checo lunged up the inside heading over the bridge at turn 13, making contact and sending his rival into the barrier, helping him climb up to tenth place and relegating the Williams driver out of the points.  While Albon wasn’t taken out of the race by the incident, it did produce yellow flags in the middle sector, jeopardising a grandstand finish as the top four drivers went nose to tail in a bid to shake up the podium order.  The safety car was never called upon with Albon still running, but the Williams driver ultimately lost out to Haas driver Kevin Magnussen in what looked set to be the battle for P11, until George Russell crashed on the final lap. Checo scampered off up the road to hunt down rookie Liam Lawson, eventually overtaking the New Zealander on the path to P8. However, that result is now under scrutiny. Perez was called to the stewards after the chequered flag waved, although with such a substantial gap to Lawson, the Mexican driver would need to receive a penalty greater than ten seconds for this to have any impact on his finishing position.  Checo’s lunge ruined Alex Albon’s race on Sunday (Image: Getty) Christian Horner will be content with the job his two drivers did given the circumstances facing Checo and team-mate Max Verstappen on Sunday with both men starting outside of the top ten. The reigning world champion came back to finish fifth with help from Russell’s late incident, maximising the potential points return after the pair were put on the back foot by a poorly timed safety car.  That outcome means that Verstappen will have to wait beyond Suzuka to clinch his third world title. The Dutchman clinched the championship there last season, but must now wait until Qatar to have a shot at the big prize.
