The Manchester United forward produced a man-of-the-match display in their 4-2 win over Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup just hours after being named in the squad and told Southgate where he feels he is best utilised.The 25-year-old was in inspired form as he scored a fine solo goal to cap a memorable day after making it into Southgate’s 26-man squad. The United attacker was a constant menace for the Aston Villa backline and hauled his side back into the game to make it 2-2.Southgate’s assistant Steve Holland was present at Old Trafford to take in his performance along with United team-mate Harry Maguire and would have been impressed with the work rate and desire shown by Rashford.He faces a battle to be named in the starting XI for England’s World Cup opener against Iran with Harry Kane a likely starter, and Rashford dropped a hint over where he believes he is most effective after scoring his eighth goal of the season.”My aim is to get back to enjoying my football at the moment and scoring goals, so I can’t complain,” Rashford said.”If you watch me play, when I’m on the left I make runs into that position [centre forward] so I try and end up near the goal, that’s where the goals are scored so that’s where I want to be. The more often I do, the more goals I’ll score.”I’d probably say I’m more comfortable on the wing. A lot of the games with my back to goal, I need to improve on that and I think I’m alright at bringing others into the game.
