Rare 20p coin sells for £71 on eBay because of huge error

The 20p coin was listed as a “mule” coin and is considered quite the collector’s item in the coin community – with this particular seller bagging £71

You may want to check your spare change as a rare 20p coin has recently sold for a whopping £71 on eBay – nearly 200 times its original value.

The 20p piece is a “mule” coin and is considered quite the collector’s item in the coin community. This particular coin dates back to 2008 and was accidentally minted with no date whatsoever.

Before November 2008, the date would be on the tail side of the coin. However, the Royal Mint made a change to the coin’s design and move the date next to the Queen’s head.

But in some cases, the old die was accidentally used – meaning a batch was issued with no date on either side of the coin. These rare British coins were the first in more than 300 years to enter circulation with no date.
