 has announced a follow-up for the PlayStation 5, entitled R-Type Final 3 Evolved. Not only that, but it's also releasing remakes of the two turn-based strategy game spin-offs R-Type Tactics and R-Type Tactics 2: Operation Bitter Chocolate, the latter of which boasts the best subtitle we've ever seen for a video game. However, from the sound of it, R-Type Final 3 Evolved is less of a sequel and more of an expanded update to its predecessor. Although it's not without new features, that may justify double dipping. For starters, Granzella promises updated visuals (the previous game wasn't all that pretty), seven brand new stages, and even PlayStation VR2 support, although it's apparently only for the take-off scenes. The announcement mentions metaverse spaces for online multiplayer lobbies as well, which will apparently be compatible with PlayStation VR2. However, it's the strategy games collection that's the more intriguing announcement. While the first R-Type Tactics (aka R-Type Command) released over here for the PlayStation Portable in 2008, its 2009 sequel never left Japan. The new collection is titled R-Type Tactics 1 • 2 Cosmos and will launch for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Both remakes will receive new post-story missions, online support, and improvements to the enemy artificial intelligence. These games were revealed in the latest issue of Japanese magazine Weekly Famitsu, as reported by Gematsu. Hopefully, Granzella will provide a more detailed announcement soon. 2003’s R-Type Final was supposed to be exactly what its name suggests but, thankfully, last year’s R-Type Final 2 successfully revived the series and now it turns out it wasn’t just a one-off.
