Putin’s estranged ‘goddaughter’ flees Moscow

A Russian socialite who is rumoured to be President Putin’s goddaughter has evaded arrest by fleeing Russia after police raided her luxury Moscow home, state media has said.

Ksenia Sobchak, a former reality show presenter who unexpectedly stood for president in 2018, was widely seen as untouchable due to her family’s ties to Putin.

Tass, the state news agency, said police had attempted to detain Sobchak, 40, but she had tricked them by purchasing flights to Turkey and Dubai before travelling to Lithuania via Belarus.

It is unclear what she is charged with and Sobchak has not commented.
