PS5 console sales in UK have been ‘a bit weak’ reveals Sony

Sony has made the surprising admission that PS5 console sales have been lower than expected in the UK, during the recent price cut.

Although Sony has certainly had its problems in the last year or so, with its puzzling lack of new game announcements, the one thing that didn’t seem to be an issue were console sales.

Only a few weeks ago, Sony revealed that worldwide sales had passed the 40 million mark and, while Microsoft never reveals sales figures, it’s still believed the PlayStation 5 is outselling the Xbox Series X/S by a factor of roughly 2:1.

That made the temporary price cut last month a (welcome) surprise, but it seems Sony isn’t happy with how much it moved the needle in the UK. ‘In United Kingdom, it’s a bit weak, but Europe as a whole has been performing quite well,’ said Sony COO Hiroki Totoki during a recent financial call.

While Sony’s results do break sales down by region, they never got into quite so much detail as how it’s doing in different countries, but the UK is traditionally considered to be the third largest PlayStation market in the world, behind the US and Japan.
