Prince Harry’s close bond with Invictus Games friend he says is like a ‘brother’

Gabriel George met Prince Harry at last year’s Invictus Games, bonding over their shared experience of serving in the military, and have since become firm friends even going scuba diving together

As a royal frequently under the global spotlight, strong friendships aren’t always easy to find for Prince Harry.

But one pal has spoken of the strong bond they share after meeting at the Invictus Games last year. It comes as Harry and Meghan’s new documentary on the Games, Heart of Invictus, dropped this week on Netflix.

Gabriel ‘Gabe’ George described how the royal had been ‘like a brother’ to him in a recent interview, as he opened up on the impact the games have had on him. The 37-year-old is among many sick or injured ex-military athletes who have competed in archery, swimming and rowing in the major event, first introduced by Harry back in 2014.

Having been medically retired after his right arm was amputated following a horrific road accident in 2008, the former Navy Corpsman revealed how he instantly clicked with Harry after meeting at the Invictus Games in The Hague.
