The Duke of Sussex took to the stage at the Invictus Games and made an attempt to channel the late American president John F. Kennedy’s famous speech, reports The Sun . It was in 1963 during the Cold War that JFK declared “Ich bin ein Berliner”. Harry looked emotional as he received a standing ovation with the audience shouting ‘Harry, Harry’. His opening address included a smattering of German words, thanking Dusseldorf for hosting the games. The official guide for the Paralympic-style sporting competition for injured veterans and military personnel originally suggested the Duchess of Sussex would go on stage at the closing ceremony to present a segment about competitors’ lives. But Meghan’s name was missing from a listing on the website of the eight-day long Invictus Games, which began today (Saturday, September 9). The schedule said German TV host Hadnet Tesfai will take Meghan’s place. But Meghan is still expected to join Prince Harry at the games, which he founded in 2014. The Duchess put in an appearance at last year’s competition to deliver tributes to those taking part and to introduce her husband. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz delivered a pre-recorded statement. Dusseldorf Mayor Dr Stephen Keller said: “We owe you a great debt of gratitude.” Harry’s inspiration from assassinated President Kennedy comes as Prince William also used a famous JFK speech about putting a man on the moon – his moonshot speech – to inspire his £50million Earthshot Prize to save the planet. Harry has had another starring role recently with his new Netflix documentary Heart of Invictus. The five-part series follows several athletes as they train for last year’s Invictus Games.
