Prince George could get new name when he becomes King

The young royal, who is second in line to the throne after the Prince of Wales, could change his first name to Alexander or Louis when eventually crowned King due to an ancient tradition

Prince William’s eldest son Prince George could be called something completely different when he eventually becomes King.

Thanks to an ancient tradition, the young royal could take a different first name when he is crowned monarch. Bizarrely, he could even even take that of his little brother Prince Louis. Many sovereigns have previously chosen to become king or queen with different names from what they were born with. The unwritten royal rule could see the future King George, currently aged 10, pick another name as previous members of the Firm have chosen to be formally sworn in using one of their middle names.

King Charles could haven taken the name King Philip or even King Arthur as what is known as the monarch’s ‘Regnal name’. But like his mother the late Queen Elizabeth, who died aged 96 at her Balmoral home last September, he decided to stick with his first name Charles –

Thus he will be known as King Charles throughout his reign and in the history books. The late Queen – who ruled for 70 years – also stuck with her birth name rather than change to Alexandra and Mary – as she saw no reason to complicate things, OK! reports.
