Police search for toddler who went missing in Alps while on holiday with grandparents

Police were combing rugged terrain in the foothills of the French Alps on Monday night in search of a two-year-old boy who went missing while on holiday with his grandparents.

The toddler, named only as Émile, was last seen in a street near his grandparents’ house in the hilltop hamlet of Le Haut-Vernet in the Alpes de Haute Provence on Saturday, Remy Avon, the public prosecutor, said.

Neighbours reported seeing him alone, according to Avon. He had been playing in his grandparents’ garden earlier and is believed to have slipped out.
