 Warren, who at one point had an estimated fortune of £300million, was arrested by undercover police in 2007 just days after he had been released from jail for a previous offence. He got a 13-year term in 2009 over a plot to smuggle £1million of cannabis into Jersey, and was later handed another 10 years, of which he had to serve half, for failing to pay a £198million confiscation order, one of Europe's biggest ever. He is on a list of individuals who have been issued with serious crime prevention orders, which was published by the National Crime Agency earlier this year. In his case the prevention orders include restrictions for five years after his release on his ability to use cars and property, borrow money, make transfers, hold trusts or shares and use foreign or virtual currency. Drugs baron Curtis “Cocky” Warren is due to be released from prison in days after spending most of the last 25 years inside â and will return to a very different Liverpool to the one he knew.
The 59-year-old will be catapulted straight from the high-security Whitemoor prison in Cambridgeshire back into the real world to find a city recovering from one of its most deadly periods after a major bust of organised crime.
Police fear that this unstable atmosphere could further complicate the picture as the man nicknamed the “Cocky Watchman” returns, having experienced just three weeks of freedom since 1997.
A source close to the National Crime Agency said: “Warren’s been the subject of countless meetings among top brass.
