Police fear consequences as ‘major player’ drugs boss to be freed after 25 years

Curtis “Cocky” Warren will return to a very different Liverpool to the one he remembers, having seen just three weeks of freedom since 1997 – with the city recovering from its most deadly period

Drugs baron Curtis “Cocky” Warren is due to be released from prison in days after spending most of the last 25 years inside – and will return to a very different Liverpool to the one he knew.

The 59-year-old will be catapulted straight from the high-security Whitemoor prison in Cambridgeshire back into the real world to find a city recovering from one of its most deadly periods after a major bust of organised crime.

Police fear that this unstable atmosphere could further complicate the picture as the man nicknamed the “Cocky Watchman” returns, having experienced just three weeks of freedom since 1997.

A source close to the National Crime Agency said: “Warren’s been the subject of countless meetings among top brass.
