Pink door owner hits back at council

The owner of a New Town house who faces a £20,000 fine for painting her front door pink has condemned conservation rules she claims are “30 years out of date”.

Miranda Dickson, 48, inherited her parents’ home, which is in a World Heritage conservation area, three years ago and redecorated the door in champagne pink last year.

Instagrammers are often snapping pictures of her house and the door even has its own account on the site.

But planners at the City of Edinburgh council have objected to the colour and are now insisting the door be repainted with white gloss.
