The recommendation comes after scientists found typing messages on the go makes stumbling more likely
Phones should lock automatically to stop people from walking and texting, scientists have recommended, after finding the practice makes stumbling more likely.
Experts at the University of New South Wales wanted to find out whether young tech natives had mastered the art of multitasking, and could safely type messages on the go.
To find out they recruited 50 students and invited them to walk on an engineered floor with moving tiles to simulate a slipping hazard.
Results showed that texting caused them to slow down and tilt forward, which left them more off balance when they slipped and at greater risk of a fall.
