Phil Salt is in line to play his first game at the T20 World Cup in England’s box office semi-final clash with India on Thursday after hopes of Dawid Malan recovering from his groin injury faded. A final decision on the starting XI will come nearer the game, but the Lancashire batsman appears a likelier replacement than an extra bowler.
With so many all-rounders in his side, Jos Buttler was able to call on seven bowlers in the wins over New Zealand and Sri Lanka, and although it is a feature of his T20 captaincy that he likes plenty of options with the ball, replacing Malan with a bowling all-rounder such as David Willey or Chris Jordan seems unlikely.
