The likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool have all strengthened this summer – but Paul Merson is particularly impressed with one of Chelsea’s newest recruits
Paul Merson believes new Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson can have a big impact at Stamford Bridge this coming season.
Jackson, 22, completed a £32million move from Villarreal to Chelsea last month. He’s signed an eight-year contract with the Blues and has been described as a player with “big potential” by the club’s co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley.
Jackson has played a big role in Chelsea’s pre-season tour of the United States. The Senegalese star, who made his international debut last year, scored twice and provided three assists in the friendlies against Wrexham, Brighton and Newcastle.
That’s why Merson, who was named as the Professional Footballers’ Association’s Young Player of the Year during his playing days, is so excited about the emerging talent. He’s backed Jackson to make a name for himself in the Premier League.
