Passengers slammed as ‘idiots’ for trying to save rows of plane seats with their bags

A passenger has expressed their fury after they got onto a Southwest flight and saw a family attempting to reserve a number of additional seats with their belongings

When flying, there are plenty of unwritten rules about what’s acceptable behaviour amongst fellow passengers. Switching seats can be a hotly debated topic in the UK – but in the US, there can be further drama on airlines where you don’t get assigned a seat at all.

Southwest is one of those airlines, and one family caused quite a stir when they tried to reserve seats by putting their bags everywhere.

When travelling on a train or a bus, popping your hand bag or coat on the seat next to you is part of accepted convention – as long as you remove it if it’s busy. However, it seems the passengers on a Southwest Airlines flight didn’t receive a memo.

“As we were getting on the plane a family had laid out their purses, bags, and blankets to save not one, but two rows of seats behind them,” one irate flyer explained on Reddit. “The two old ladies of the family sat opposite aisle seats and tried to save the ones next to them as well, for their family in the C boarding group.”
