In July the Met Police re-opened an investigation into a "Jingle and Mingle" bash held by his campaign team in December 2020, after a new video surfaced of Tories partying. It sparked calls for Lord Bailey's elevation to the Lords to be delayed until the probe concluded - but this was ignored by the Government. Asked by The Mirror who this was progressing, he said: "I will never talk to you lot because you never treat me with any respect." Just moments earlier he had called for more support for police and said young people need to learn about responsibility. He told Tories that Mr Khan must "give the police the opportunity to do their job." "We will not arrest our way out of crime but police are not social worker," he said. "If the police lose control of our streets we are all done." He went on to say that young people need to learn about responsibility, saying: "We as a country spend a lot of money around young people. We only ever talk to them about their responsibilities as well." Lord Bailey told the fringe event: "What's important about crime is the mood music that we set.
