Part of London’s Roman wall on display after 40 years in basement

Over 2,000 years, it has endured everything from the fall of Rome to the Blitz. It even survived being part of a “seedy” nightclub. Now, a section of Roman wall is being brought back into the light.

A piece of the London Wall, the ancient defence of the Roman settlement of Londinium, is once again in public view after spending four decades trapped in both an office basement and a disco.

It is now part of a museum-quality exhibition, but is nestled alongside a new block of student accommodation after the developers decided to make a show of this slice of history.

Intriguingly, it is part of a new approach which is sweeping London, where heritage is being showcased in modern buildings. This attitude is
