Pocket money seems to be becoming a thing of the past â as parents now use modern rewards, such as extra screen time or additional mobile data, to encourage their children to do chores.
In fact, a whopping 84% of parents are now turning to alternative “payments” to incentivise youngsters helping around the house more.
The new go-to “currencies” include chocolate or sweets, a later bedtime, or in-game purchases, according to the poll of 500 mums and dads, with 12-16-year-olds.
And over half (56%) choose to give other treats like this as a way of stopping their kids from spending their money all in one go â while 44% prefer different methods as it is cheaper.
