Oxford Street’s Christmas lights won’t be on 24/7 because of the energy crisis

NEWS… BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT

The iconic Oxford Street Christmas lights will be on for just a third of their usual length of time this year due to soaring energy bills.

The lights – which feature 5,000 illuminated stars and have been switched on today – will only be on from 3pm to 11pm in the face of the cost of living crisis.

It is expected this will reduce energy usage by up to two thirds compared to previous years, when the lights have been on for 24 hours through November and December.

New West End Company who operate the lights, said: ‘In the current climate, it is also important that we reduce our energy consumption and help to promote a more sustainable Christmas in line with our ambitions to make Oxford Street a leading sustainable district.
