He had been visiting his elderly mum, who lives opposite, when the dogs apparently escaped from the window of a neighbouring property. Horrified neighbours heard Ian's screams as the XL Bullies launched their savage attack, and eyewitnesses told how the dogs tore his clothes from his body as he tried to protect his mum. Ian, who ran a restoration business from the family home, was airlifted to hospital but sadly died from his injuries. A 30-year-old man, from South Staffordshire, has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and being in charge of dogs dangerously out of control causing injury. He has since been released on conditional bail pending further enquiries. In an update last night, Surrey Police confirmed that it had been in contact with him on two previous occasions - once when the pets were off their leash in a field and another when they mounted another dog. The force said: "On 14 January 2023, we received a report involving concern around two XL Bully dogs who were off their lead in a field in Stonnall. "We went to owner's address and gave words of advice around keeping the dogs under control whilst in a shared public place. The owner was co-operative and engaged positively with officers. Both dogs were in the address at the time and appeared to be calm. They did not show any signs of aggression towards officers. "On 30 March 2023, we then received reports that two XL Bully dogs had mounted another dog in Stonnall. No injuries were caused to the dog or anyone who was in the area at the time.
