 Agatha Christie's former home unintentionally became a refuge for stranded fans after they were trapped inside the period house following bad weather. The adverse conditions meant that over 100 people were stuck inside the celebrated detective novelist's former abode this week. Open for public visits, the property can be found at Greenway in Devon and regularly hosts tours – some of which keen supporters of the late writer were enjoying last Friday when stormy weather interrupted things. Stopping anyone from leaving, a tree was reportedly knocked over by the wind and rain blocking the road leading to the home resulting in the exit being cut off for anyone inside the grounds. On-site, visitors, volunteers and staff members became stuck as they waited for the tree to be removed by police and highways officers, according to Devon Live. The publication reported that a visitor – by the name of Caroline Heaven – contacted them to alert the news outlet she and more than 100 other guests were waiting for a way to leave for 'hours'. They haven't even turned up yet. 'There is about 100 of us trapped here, at least 100, and the staff. It's a shame really. They are doing a great job, they are giving us free teas and things. It's a bit bleak. 'Decided to play a game of croquet while I am dressed for it.' A spokesperson for National Trust also commented on the incident and said: 'This afternoon (Friday 14th July) a large tree fell onto the single-track road in and out of Greenway and blocking any traffic entering or exiting the area.
