One person has died and at least 15 more became sick due to a Listeria outbreak linked to deli meats and cheeses in at least 6 states.
The majority of the illnesses were reported in New York, where seven people have fallen ill from the bacteria. The person who died was one of three confirmed cases in Maryland. Cases have also been detected in New Jersey, California, Illinois, and Massachusetts.
The true number of sick people is likely higher, the Centers for Disease Control said, as Listeria is not commonly tested for many people recover without medical care.
The sick people ranged in age between 38 and 92, with a median age of 74.
