The Brazilian, won gold at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and picked up a bronze at the Sydney games in 2000, has passed away in Sao Paulo
Olympic gold medal winner Walewska Oliveira has died suddenly at the age of 43.
The Brazilian won gold at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, and picked up a bronze at the Sydney Games in 2000, whilst also representing her country at the Athens Games in 2004. She passed away in Sao Paulo, with her cause of death not yet confirmed.
The Brazilian Vollyball Confederation (CBV) said: “With sadness and immense regret, the CBV received the news of the death of Olympic champion Walewska on Thursday night. At this difficult time, CBV sympathises with the family and friends of this great player.”
CBV president Radames Lattari added: “Walewska was a special player, her career in the sport will forever be remembered and revered.”
