Deputy Prime Minister defends David TC Davies over flyer that raises concern about inadequacy of council consultation on proposed gypsy site
Oliver Dowden has defended David TC Davies and said a leaflet the Welsh Secretary sent to his constituents was not “racist”.
The Deputy Prime Minister said Mr Davies was “standing up for his constituents” and “I totally support his right to do that”.
Mr Davies, the Tory MP for Monmouth, sent a campaign leaflet to constituents in July that raised concerns about the inadequacy of a council consultation on a proposed new traveller site. The leaflet prompted allegations of racism.
After complaints of discrimination were made to Gwent Police, officers said they were reviewing the content on the grounds that it may represent a non-crime hate incident.
