Joe Biden says Ohio voters ‘spoke loud and clear’ in rejecting proposal by 57 to 43 per cent
Voters in Ohio rejected a Republican-backed proposal that would have made it more difficult to enshrine abortion rights in the state’s constitution.
The vote was viewed as a test of how states will handle the issue after a Supreme Court ruling ended nationwide protection for abortion rights last year.
In 2019, Mike DeWine, the Republican Governor of Ohio, signed a ban on terminating pregnancies after six weeks which went into effect after the ruling.
The ban was put on hold indefinitely after a legal challenge from abortion clinics.
