More than 1.9m over-80s visited hospital emergency departments last year compared with 1.4m in 2012, according to Age UK
The number of over-80s visiting emergency departments has risen by half a million in the past decade amid a crisis in older patients booking GP appointments.
More than 1.9 million octogenarians had visited accident and emergency by the end of 2022, figures released by the charity Age UK show.
However, in 2012 this figure, based on NHS Digital data, stood at around 1.4 million – an overall increase of around 40 per cent.
In total, 2022 saw more than 4.8 million A&E visits by older patients generally.
