The UK is not the only country where drama over a spouse has led to a senior royal stepping down from their duties.
Princess Martha Louise, the daughter of Norway’s King Harald, has said she will no longer use her title amid questions about her ‘shaman’ fiance.
The 51-year-old princess, who is fourth in line to the throne, got engaged in June to Durek Verrett, an American who describes himself as a shaman and a healer on his website.
But the relationship proved controversial, with Norwegian media accusing them of using Martha’s royal title for commercial gain along with promoting alternative healthcare methods.
