Discover where to see the Northern Lights from the US on July 13, including optimal viewing spots, travel tips, weather forecasts and seasonal advice
A solar storm is coming – and it’s bringing an intense wave of the Northern Lights with it.
The vibrant, colourful electromagnetic waves are likely to be visible from a few high-latitude American states late in the night on Thursday.
It’s a rare occurrence – the space weather phenomenon is generally only visible near the poles, and it’s most commonly seen during the winter months. It rarely reaches the contiguous states.
But due to a low-intensity storm on the surface of the sun that’s sending particles into the Earth’s atmosphere, the lights could be visible in several midlatitude regions on Thursday.
