Up to 14 new oil and gas fields could get the go ahead in the North Sea next year, the most in a decade, according to a consultancy.
Rystad Energy estimated that if all the potential projects on the cards for 2024 were to get the green light, including the controversial Rosebank and Cambo fields, then it would deliver almost £10 billion of investment in coming years.
“Next year could see the highest number of projects sanctioned in a decade. While three to five projects are sanctioned, on average, in the UK each year, 2024 could see up to 14 new oil and gas fields given the green light,” Rystad said.
