★★★☆☆The second summer of Britpop seems to have left Noel Gallagher out in the cold. While Blur and Pulp stage triumphant comebacks and Liam, Noel’s estranged brother, claims sole custody of Oasis’s swagger with a new live album stuffed with old smashes, Noel has become an oddly marginal figure.

A serviceable post-lockdown record, Council Skies, was overshadowed by a string of rancorous interviews where targets included the 1975’s Matty Healy (“slack-jawed”). Nostalgia was similarly kept at arm’s length on the latest date of his new tour with his High Flying Birds project, where he declined to coast on the Oasis hit parade.
