Jamie Ritchie, Scotland’s new skipper, urged his fellow Scots to rally around Blair Kinghorn after the fly half missed a match-winning kick on Saturday against Australia. The Scotland No 10 is in the spotlight like never before. The converted full back was picked at fly half in Scotland’s losing summer series against Argentina but Saturday was different. Yes, Finn Russell was unavailable for this match because the international was outside rugby’s Test match windows but – having been omitted from their autumn squad – there is absolutely no doubt Russell has not been rested, he has been dropped. Kinghorn wears the crown.
Comparisons between the two men are therefore inevitable. Would Russell have missed Kinghorn’s kickable penalty to win the game? I doubt it,
