Nicola Sturgeon packed a lot into a single tweet on Tuesday night. Her message to the new prime minister had only two sentences, but about six thoughts: “I expressed hope that we will build a UK/Scot gov relationship based on mutual respect – inc for mandates – and my fear that further austerity will do real damage to people & public services. I look forward to further engagement soon.”
It translates as follows: Rishi Sunak is a very different proposition from Liz Truss or Boris Johnson. So the usual rhetoric about “morally abhorrent” Tories no longer works. Without labouring the point, having a prime minister with a British Asian background changes the game. As President Biden put it: “Pretty astounding. A ground-breaking milestone. And
