 BBC presenter Nick Owen is set to return to screens next week after undergoing surgery for prostate cancer. Last month the veteran TV presenter, 75, revealed he'd been diagnosed with the disease, which he labelled 'aggressive' and 'extensive'. Reflecting on the day he was told he had cancer back in April, Nick said it was 'one of the worst' of his life. But after receiving treatment he's now returning to work on Midlands Today, where he will appear on the sofa one day a week as he continues to recover. The presenter said he was feeling 'pretty good' following a 'turbulent' time. 'I'm a bit fragile still but so much better than I've been in the last few months,' he said. Having hosted the regional news programme since 1997, Nick said going back on air after an extended break would feel 'quite strange'. 'I'm slightly apprehensive, but once I've done the first one it's like the old getting back on your bike again, it should be fine. But it is slightly daunting, the thought of it,' he admitted when speaking to BBC. 'I think my heart will be beating that little bit faster than usual.' How common is prostate cancer and what are symptoms? Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men in the UK, with around 52,300 men diagnosed with the condition every year, Cancer Research UK states. It is more prevalent among older men, with around 35% of new cases every year diagnosed in men aged 75 and over. Prostate cancer does not usually cause symptoms in the early stages, the charity states. If it has already spread to other parts of the body, it can cause symptoms including back or bone pain that doesn't go away with rest, tiredness and unexplained weight loss.
