Newspaper headlines: Donald Trump charged and Justin Trudeau’s split

Most of Thursday’s front pages touch on Donald Trump facing his third and most serious set of criminal charges. The former US president is due in a courtroom in Washington after being accused of plotting to overturn the result of the last presidential election.

Several papers also feature Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife Sophie after the couple announced their separation after 18 years of marriage.

Elsewhere, the Financial Times says the government will – once again – delay the introduction of full post-Brexit controls on animal and plant products from the EU. Measures were due to come into force in October, but the paper says ministers fear the additional bureaucracy would increase costs when they are trying to cut inflation.

The Daily Telegraph reports Welsh Secretary David TC Davies is being investigated after he sent a leaflet about a proposed traveller site in his constituency. The paper says the Home Secretary Suella Braverman believes the investigation is a waste of time.

Works and Pensions Secretary Mel Stride tells the Times people over the age of 50 should consider delivering takeaways and other flexible jobs if their finances are stretched. He also urged employers to give older workers greater flexibility to attract them back to the workplace.
