Newcastle to reignite interest in Atletico Madrid star in January

NEWS… BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT

Newcastle United are set to make another move for Yannick Carrasco in January, with Atletico Madrid likely to sell after dropping out of European competition early in the season.

The 29-year-old was strongly linked with a move to St James’ Park earlier this year, but it did not come to fruition in January or the summer and he has remained a regular in the Atletico Madrid side since, making 18 appearances already this season.

However, Diego Simeone’s side finished bottom of their Champions League group, meaning they will not even be playing in the Europa League after Christmas and Atleti will have to trim their budget accordingly.

Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, via Sport Witness, reports that Carrasco is likely to be one of the players to be sold, with 18 months left on his contract.
