Newcastle to offer Miguel Almiron new contract

Exclusive: In-form striker has enjoyed a turnaround in fortunes in the team, playing an integral part in Eddie Howe’s high press system

Newcastle United are set to offer Miguel Almiron a new contract and end talk of the in-form winger leaving the club next year.

Almiron has been superb for Newcastle this season, scoring six goals and playing an integral part in manager Eddie Howe’s high press, high intensity system. As a result, he is likely to attract interest from rival clubs as we head towards the January transfer window.

Sources have told Telegraph Sport that the Paraguay international is now considered one of the key men in the squad and a new contract will be discussed to reflect that, as well as protect his value and offer long term assurances to the player and his family.

The 28-year-old is almost halfway into the five-year deal he signed when he joined from Atlanta United, for a then club record £21million in January 2019.
