Newcastle ace Sandro Tonali details his ‘special night’ at Wetherspoons

Newcastle boss How insists delayed arrival in Milan ‘no big deal’ Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali has lifted the lid on how he ended up having a ‘special night’ in a Wetherspoon pub after being pranked by his team-mates. Ahead of facing his former club AC Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday, Tonali detailed how he has been adjusting to life in the North East, with a trip to Wetherspoons one of the highlights after deciding to go out for a night on the town. The Italy international arrived at St James’ Park in July in a £60million transfer from AC Milan as Eddie Howe pulled off the biggest signing of his reign so far. And Tonali has wasted no time in exploring all of the culturing offerings Newcastle has on display in the city centre. Tonali enjoyed a debut to remember at the Toon when he struck home the opening goal in their 5-1 victory over Aston Villa on the opening weekend of the Premier League season. Clearly in the mood to celebrate, he asked his team-mates for a recommendation on a local bar or restaurant to visit. Little did he know, their choice would see him pop into to the low-budget pub chain Wetherspoons, leaving him pleasantly surprised by what he had in store. More info “After the Villa game, I asked about restaurants or bars or clubs and I didn’t receive the answer I was expecting!” Tonali said, speaking to reporters at a news conference. “It was fun too. I spent the night in a pub with my family. It was a special night.” It was a special night for Newcastle fans too, as news of Tonali’s surprise presence in the Job Pullman pub in Gosforth swept across social media. He has already endeared himself as a fans’ favourite and is seen as a key member of the squad, making four appearances so far. And the Magpies star proved to be a good sport, posing for selfies and meeting adoring supporters as he enjoyed a night out on the town. It has been a difficult adjustment period for Tonali, though, after admitting he struggled at first to settle into life on Tyneside, which is perhaps no surprise given the huge culture shift from the glamour of Milan.
